Behind the times…

March 18, 2007

I always forget how busy the month of March really is.  Between National Qualifiers, state qualifiers, March Madness, and Toastmaster contest season, I feel as if I were hit by a truck.  Add the conference to the mix and wow.  At least everything is going well.  The contract is signed, the speakers are lined up, the C&L recipant will attend, and the publicity is in the works.  It just seems as if we are really, really busy.

My team won and advanced to the sweet sixteen although I have all but one team still in the sweet sixteen, the rest of my brackets have been a disaster.  Good thing it is only Brent and I in our mini pool.  It appears that drinks are on me.  We will see what happens next weekend.   At least it has been a great weekend of basketball.

H and I have decided to go to Nationals as judges for one of our favorite schools (and group of kids).  They qualified 7 kids, so Mike was badly in need of judges.  I cannot wait.  It will be great to judge awesome policy debate.  H is looking forward to good public forum rounds.  Who knows.

Debate

March 4, 2007

Well, the debate NFL qulaifiers are finally done without incident this year – except one mistake caught almost immediately.  Yes.  I only ended up hearing 6 rounds this year of 8, largely because I was dirty in CX pretty early.  I had time to talk to Don, Susan, Suzy, and Brian.   Heidi and I had time to talk about cases and getting ready for next week and then State quals.  All in all it was tiring, but… The kids went further (3 PFD teams and 2 LD kids) than we have gone before.  I still think it is too bad H & Matt didn’t do PFD at nat quals.  They were the shoo in for the district and theoritically could have won the big dance, they beat the team that won 2 times that year.  Oh well.

All in all, I am ready for next weekend.  I am even ready for the conference (except the meals are hugely expensive), but that is really not that big of a deal.
